Fall is here!

Today, I put up our fall decorations! I can't wait to have a house with more rooms to fill with decorations and a front porch to put pumpkins on. But anyway, Fall is my favorite season and October is my favorite month! I also made apple crisp today. I also have plans to make banana bread and pumpkin bread in the next few weeks. And, OBVIOUSLY, I am watching Hocus Pocus on Tuesday 9/30!

The Office

This office is very different from our CT office. We had a full office staff, cleaning crew, etc. Here, we share the floor with 2 other agencies and we all have to swap off cleaning the kitchen. Not like scrubbing the floors, but managing the dishwasher. We also have this office manager who works for one of the other agencies and is very serious about keeping that kitchen clean. Today, I saw a sign on the microwave that said 'News Flash: Your Mother does not work here. If you spill in the microwave, clean it up'

If we dont empty the dishwasher like 2 seconds after we get in, she 'reminds' us to do it.

Oh and her nickname (that she knows about) is.........Nana b/c she is like the 'house mother'. Please!

Weekend

The weekend is upon us......

On Friday, I am going to see a band called......."The Cheeseballs". They do covers of 70s/80s/90s and it should be fun.

The Cal Academy of Science just re-opened is supposed to be awesome. Its actually FREE on Saturday so I think we are going to go. They also have 'free' days depending on what neighborhood you live in which is nice.

not going to watch Charlotte Simmons. I hated this book. Charlotte was SO naive, it was scary. I felt bad for her throughout the entire book and wanted her to smarten up, but she didn't. Now, they want to put it on HBO. Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld was SO much better.

I stopped into GAP yesterday. They are having a fall sale. I got these cute flats for $20! They were originally $45. Since my life is now high heel free and happy, these made me doubly happy!

Anne Frank

I finished Anne Frank....what a good book. I cannot imagine reading this as a 6th grader or something. Anne is only 13 when she enters the Annex with her family & goes into hiding. She keeps her diary to talk about all of the problems/issues/concerns/hopes & dreams into her diary. She is very grown up for her age. I knew her fate before starting the book but throughout the book, I really did hope she escaped somehow so she could live out her life she dreamed of.

The Holocaust was a sick event in history. I have never seen Schindler's List because I would be a crying mess. I could also probably never visit the Holocaust Museum because I would be crying from the second I walked in.

I am now interested in reading a biography of Hitler to find out about this crazy person.

Date Night

I am so excited. Tomorrow, Erik and I are going on a little date to this restaurant called, . We are going because a portion of their sales is going to the 'Great American Dine Out' which fights child hunger. This restaurant is on my way home from work and has 1/2 price wine on Tuesdays!

Be Careful with that Jump Rope

Erica Rix was playing with a jump rope in the back of her mother's car two weeks ago when the end of the rope, fluttering out the window, caught on the car's axle. A loop of the rope tightened around the girl's wrist, slicing off her hand.

As baseball said farewell to Yankee Stadium, one of the game's most beloved players stood beneath the stands in a full vintage uniform. Now 83, the man who coined the phrase "it ain't over till it's over" put his own stamp on the day.

Gossip Girl

I have not watched the show Gossip Girl until my friend Cristin would not stop talking about it. I caught one episode and now she gave me Season 1 on DVD. It's good. Its addictive. It reminds me of a tv version of that movie, Cruel Intentions.

Miette

Yesterday, Erik and I went to lunch at Stacks in Hayes Valley and stopped by this cute little bakery, Miette. Erik had a marshmallow cupcake. They have cakes, candy, lots of stuff!

No Reservations

I watched the movie, No Reservations. It has Catherine Zeta-Jones, Abagail Breslin & Aaron Eckhart in it. It was cute. Catherine Zeta Jones was OK. Aaron Eckhart was great. It is a good, Sunday daytime movie to watch. I recommend it for that reason!

Danny Coyle's

Erik and I ended up going out last night for a few beers. We walked to this place in the Lower Haight neighborhood called, Danny Coyle's. It was small, good beer on tap, and a DJ playing old school music. It looks like a fun place for happy hour too since they have huge windows in the front of the bar that they open during the day.

Haley

Evie has a new friend in the park, Haley. She is a pit/Weimeriner(sp?) and she looks like this:


She is very sweet & cute. She loves to RUN. The other day, Evie and Haley played with Evie's new orange ball. I let Evie run with her leash hanging so she could keep up with Haley. It was fun. She was snorting.

Did you know that more and more people are naming their dogs 'people' names? I once read that since people are delaying having children, they get pets & name them human names to take the place of the kid. Hmmm. Evie is human like. Haley, yes. Maybelle, yes(although strange).

Do you ever really hear of dogs named Bubbles or Spot, anymore? I don't.

Kinda Rainy

This morning I woke up and it was kinda rainy out. We have not seen rain since February. It is just misting everything. Of course, Evie can smell rain or something and doesn't want to go out when its raining. So, you know when its January and pouring rain for 2 weeks straight, that is fun. She would rather hold it for 2 days than go out.

Anyway, today seems like the perfect day for a movie! I also just realized my fave sushi place, Domo, has lunch for $10.95. How amazing!

I got my hair highlighted yesterday. Actually, low lighted. I don't like when my hair gets too 'yellow'. My hairdresser, Richard, is going to Argentina for 3 mos to study spanish so I had to get it done. He said to use a blonde shampoo like 2x per week and it will help my hair from getting so yellow.

In grown up news, I am taking Evie to camp in a few minutes but then not coming home. Nope! I am going straight to the grocery store to do the food shopping & get it over for the weekend. Normally, we go on Sundays and are rushing to get home b/c Erik has to go to work. So, this way, its done. How adult.

Risky Business

I finally watched Risky Business from start to finish last night. I feel like I should have seen this movie ages ago & have seen parts but never the whole thing. It is pretty funny!

Angels?

More than half of all Americans believe they have been helped by a guardian angel in the course of their lives, according to a new poll by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion. In a poll of 1700 respondents, 55% answered affirmatively to the statement, "I was protected from harm by a guardian angel."


TIME is reporting that 'most Americans' believe in Guardian Angels. I definitely believe in them. There have been times when I look up at the last second & see something while driving or just something tells you to look, stop, etc. This is them helping you!

I looooove What Not To Wear. TLC has been showing it a lot the past few days. I always think of Stacy & Clinton when I am going to wear or buy something and think if it fits with the 'rules'

It's Me or the Dog

OMG. I am watching that show, 'It's Me or the Dog' on Animal Planet. They are working with a bull dog who is aggressive to people. They took him to the vet & he has a hyper thyroid. This makes dogs anxious and in turn aggressive. I wonder if Evie has a thyroid problem!!



P.S. - The Gentle Leader is still working like a charm. She is a dream dog outside & I feel better because I know I can control her.

Goodbye, Paul's

Paul's Famous Hamburgers, a fixture on the Boston Post Road here for 62 years, has closed.

The restuarant with its signature cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries and onion rings is always closed Monday but did not reopen Tuesday and will not reopen, officials said Wednesday. Attempts to reach owner Edward Moore at the restaurant and at home were unsuccessful, but city and business officials confirmed the closing.

"Obviously it is very upsetting to see Paul's close,'' the mayor said. "It has been a part of Milford's past and like Harrison's (Hardware), we are going to miss it.''

McCain Seen as Less Likely to Bring Change, Poll Finds

The poll suggests, the boost has not gone far beyond that. The poll found that even now, voters are much more likely to identify Mr. Obama — and not Mr. McCain — as someone who would bring change to Washington. He is widely viewed as someone who would continue or expand President Bush’s policies in office.

And the New York Times/CBS News poll found no evidence, at least to date, that Ms. Palin has allowed Mr. McCain to expand his appeal to women voters or independent voters.

Fall

Yesterday, it sort of felt like fall here. You could smell it. Fall here is going to be very different from CT. I think we will still have 60-65 degree weather but I know leaves fall off the trees here. There is a big pumpkin festival in Half Moon Bay that I plan on going to. We will definitely get pumpkins but don't have a front porch to put them on!

I am happy to be able to enjoy October & Halloween this year. Last year, my October was traveling back and forth from SF to CT to meet my new team, find a new apt, pack up the house, etc.

Plus, I have friends out here that love the movie HOCUS POCUS! Yippeeee......

What's up with Kenley?

This girl needs to grow up, stop being rude, and learn how to respect people. I mean, she interrupts Heidi on the Runway, she says Michael Kors knows nothing behind his back, and laughs when other designers are getting feedback. Oh and your 40's/50's style will only go so far....GROW UP Kenley. I hope you do not win - Korto deserves to win.

Hair, Again

I saw Gwyneth Paltrow on Oprah today. I love her hair and then think, I want my hair like this.



But, then I also watched the Hills and wanted to keep it long like LC.

Home Sick

I am home sick today. I slept til 1pm and it was great. I have a cold and you know when you have one, you just want to sleep & rest and you feel better.
