Movie Review: Something Borrowed

Last night was our monthly movie night and we saw Something Borrowed! I loooooved the book. The movie was pretty good and stayed true to the book. The best thing about this movie though was John Krasinski! He was hilarious!!


The other great thing about this movie was the actor who played Dex...Colin Egglesfield. Holy Hotness! haha He was super cute in this movie!

If you saw the book, you may like the movie. If you didn't, you might just think it's a 'cute comedy' but either way its a fun night out with the ladies!

The Slide at AT&T Park

On Tuesday, we were with the clients alllll day. First up, we went to Sam's in Tiburon and had an awesome lunch on the deck on the water. We took the ferry over to Tiburon from SF and it was a beautiful day! We had some drinks and I had this great salmon salad.

Later in the day, we went to dinner and the Giants/Marlins game at AT&T park.

Before the game, we went to Mijita for dinner. Mijita is a mexican restaurant situated directly next to the ball park. You can walk through the restaurant and right into the stadium.

At Mijita, you walk up to the counter to order and the servers bring your food over. We had chips, salsa, & guac to start. The chips are nice & thick but super greasy. For dinner, I just had a veggie taco which was pretty good. They also have spicy/toasted pumpkin seeds as a side dish there that were yummy! Mijita was PACKED during this time before the game. I probably wouldn't travel back over here just for the food and I definitely wouldn't go here before a game. Tacos before a game just seems a little strange. haha.

It was great weather for an evening game. Usually, you have to bundle up and be prepared to freeze!

We had awesome seats at the club level. Club Level is awesome because behind the seats, the area is glassed in so you can sit inside & watch if you want. Plus, there are tons of restaurants and food stands like sushi!

It was also 'Carnaval' night at the ballpark so we were treated to this funky dance & music show before the game.


This is the big Coca-Cola slide inside the park that is actually a slide. Well, there are a few slides in there. Our clients were dying to go on it so we took them. And of course, I went down too. It was pretty fun. haha.

Tuesday was a looooong day and I was so tired at night but it was fun! It was my first Giants game of the season and unfortunately, they lost :-(

Wayfare Tavern

On Monday & Tuesday, we had Clients in town. It was a busy, tiring, two days of meetings and entertainment. On Monday night, we went to Wayfare Tavern for dinner. I have been dying to try this place so was excited to go! Wayfare Tavern is the newest restaurant belonging to Tyler Florence.


The restaurant is uniquely decorated inside like you are stepping into a home in 1776. It feels like you are actually eating in someone's home with the old wood floors, heavy oak tables, and Americana decorated walls.

We had our own private room for dinner which was cool. One wall had a bookcase with old items on it like books & whatnot.

As for dinner, we tried a bunch of different menu items. We started with the figs wrapped in bacon, Poutine, & deviled Jidori eggs. Since I don't eat pork, I only had the Jidori eggs and they were pretty good.

For dinner, a lot of people ordered the Fried Chicken since it is the most recommended dish on the menu. I have been dreaming of lobster lately so I had lobster. I am actually considering having lobsters shipped in from Maine for dinner one night! One thing to note about ordering dinner at Wayfare is that you only get your main entree & must order sides separately. I was happy that we ordered macaroni & cheese as a side because everyone has been raving about it.

Here are my thoughts on the meal - Meh. I was disappointed. I thought everything would be amazing and it was just OK. The lobster was pretty good & came pre-cracked which was nice. The mac & cheese tasted like bacon in it, but it didn't. Maybe it was the 'smoked olive oil' in the dish. The fried chicken had so much rosemary in it, I felt like I was taking a bite out of a Christmas tree.

The wines were nice though & the overall experience was fun. I suppose I would go back and try a different dish to see if I feel any different about the restaurant. Just goes to show you can't listen to other people's recommendations all of the time.

Book Review: Kommandant's Girl

The Kommandant's Girl was a book about WWII and what someone will do to survive. To me, this book was similar to Those Who Save Us. It was the story of a Jewish girl, Emma, who wants to escape living in the Ghetto or being deported to a Concentration Camp. To do so, she has to hide her identity and friend the enemy.

Emma has a difficult job of keeping up a new identity and also remembering her past and helping her fellow Jews. This book was a quick read and gave another insight into WWII.

Movie Review: How Do You Know?

Has anyone seen this movie & have any clue what it is really about? I watched this and thought at the end, what was the point of this movie?

Reese plays a girl who dates Owen but also meets Paul Rudd. Paul likes her but she likes Owen. But, then she doesn't like Owen. Also, Paul & Nicholson are father & son and they work together. But, there is some big scandal at work and they are fighting over it.

I mean, this was the biggest mish mash of a movie I've seen in awhile. I actually liked Reese in this movie though. She played someone a little different & was good to see. Besides Legally Blonde & Walk the Line, I think she plays the same part over & over.

Anyway, I don't recommend this movie since I have no idea what it was really about!

Sunday in Livermore

On Sunday, we wanted to take Kimmy out to see Murrieta's Well in Livermore. It was sunny but wiiiiindy out. First up, we did a tasting at Murrieta's Well and gave her a tour of the grounds. This is where we are getting married next year!

After Murrieta's Well, we went to Wente. We loved their wines - so delish and priced extremely well. It was however, very crowded. People get very pushy when they want their wine!

Livermore is great because it is in a different location than Napa & Sonoma. However, you have to drive all over to get to different wineries. This is how Paso Robles, Sonoma, & Santa Ynez are as well. I really like Napa because the wineries are all on one strip. If you want to veer off, you can, but it also allows for more time to go to more wineries.

From the weekend, I think I learned that I'm not leaving SF to eat and only going to Napa for wine. haha

Afterwards, we drove home and made some food. We got a bunch of cheese and had wine and beer. We ended up putting on an old movie, 'The Secret to my Success' and falling asleep in the living room. haha.

Unfortunately, Kimmy had to leave the next morning. It was a fun weekend!!

Social Kitchen

On Saturday night, we went to a new restaurant called Social Kitchen & Brewery. It's been open awhile but it was our first time going. They have great food and unique beers.



I had a Saurkraut Wheat Beer that was good!

We shared a bunch of small plates and had: Fried Chicken Sliders with Gravy (SOOOO good!), Brussel Sprout Chips, Vegan Chilli, Buffalo Chicken Wings, and Sweet Potato Fries. We loved everything!

After dinner, we went to Blackthorn Tavern which is just down the street. The restaurant is in a neighborhood called Inner Sunset which has a bunch of cute restaurants & bars.

After there, we went to The Page, a bar near our house and finally, home. It was a fun day!!

Sweatin' for Sammy

On Saturday AM, we ran a 5K. We wanted to run on Saturday & of course, it was all of the way down in San Jose. San Jose is farther than we thought. Oops. Oh well, we were still able to run it when we arrived. Also, turns out it was a TRAIL RUN. Trail Runs are hard courses, on dirt/grass, and this course was ALL hills. Weirdest race course ever.

We ran the Sweatin' for Sammy 5K which was a fundraiser for a little girl. The raced raised enough money for her to have her therapy, which is awesome!

After the race, we went home to shower. Then, we had a late brunch at Pork Store Cafe. Sounds like a gross name for a restaurant but it was Delish!! After lunch, Kimmy & I went to get a mani/pedi which was awesome!

Kimmy's Visit: Friday

Kimmy arrived last Thursday night super late since her flight was delayed. Evie was so excited to go down to pick her up. She loves the airport and knows we are getting someone when we go!

This entire weekend, I wanted to try some new places. Some worked out, some didn't work out so well. Oh well, it was part of the adventure!

On Friday, we ventured up to Santa Rosa (an HOUR away) to go to Guy Fieri's restaurant - Tex Wasabi. I had heard about this place and it looked interesting - a mix of Japanese and BBQ food.


We were seated immediately however, it took 10 min for our server to come over. I think this was our Server's first day or something because he was not with it. He took our drink order, then brought drinks AND apps to the table next to us before giving us our drinks. He apologized a bunch of times.

The menu was funky. There was a mix of Japanese/BBQ items, straight up BBQ, and straight up Japanese/sushi.


First up, we had the edamame and buttermilk fried pickles. The pickles were AWESOME!


We also had salads which sucked. They were just iceberg lettuce with some dressing on it. Oh and our server forgot one! While we were eating the apps, the waiter told us that our rolls were ready & did we want them right now. We had to tell him to hold off for a few mins.

For sushi, we had two 'Gringo Roll's: Big Bird on Fire and Hidden Chicken Roll. They were just OK. Chicken is not supposed to be in sushi for a reason - it's super hard to eat. When you eat fish sushi, the fish sort of melts in your mouth. Honestly, one roll tasted like a Taco Bell burrito!

The place was PACKED and I think the restaurant was overwhelmed. The servers seemed new and the quality of food is not that high. I definitely would NOT go back or recommend this place. I actually don't think I'm going to leave SF to eat anymore. haha.

After that, we drove back to SF and stopped downtown. We ended up going to Toronado and Metro Caffe for cheese steaks. Delish!! I think we went home after that and chilled out because the next day, we were planning on running a 5K......

The weekend with Kimmy was fun and then I had Clients in town for two straight days. I am so tired! haha. I will have pics of the weekend soon.

Feeling Better

Let me tell you how much taking a real sick day did for me. I feel like 95% better! Seriously, taking a real sick day, sleeping and resting did wonders for me. Too many times we just go to work because we feel we are too busy & whatnot. I felt like total crap and I asked Erik if I should go to work that day. He said to me, "If you were my co-worker, I would've been mad if you came to work because I don't want to get sick." So glad I made that decision to stay home.

We are SUPER excited because tonight....KIMMY ARRIVES. I didn't tell Evie yet because she will be off the wall.



I also brought her to camp this AM and didn't get stuck in any traffic, which was great. Plus, I am driving my co-workers to a Client lunch today so work will pay for parking. Double bonus!!

I can't believe that Kimmy has not been here since January 2010! We have a lot of fun things planned for the weekend and I am OFF FROM WORK tomorrow. Yippeeeeee!!

Sick!

Yesterday, I left work early because I did not feel well. Isn't it crazy how a simple cold can make you feel so terrible? I couldn't breathe and was so tired. I came home & got right in bed. Erik was great by walking Evie & making us dinner. I got up and went back to bed!

Today, I took a sick day. It was amazing. I got up for breakfast and went back and slept for half of the day. I feel a million times better!! I have to be better because....KIMMY is coming this weekend!! woohoo.

We are going to run a 5K this weekend. Too bad I have NOT been running since I haven't been feeling well. Oh well. We will make it a 'fun run' or walk. We got these super cute shirts to wear!

Bay to Breakers 2011

Today was the annual Bay to Breakers race and this year, we watched it from the luxury of our living room. Things changed in the race this year including, the park a block from our house being blocked off to sit in & watch the 'race'. Since we didn't care to drink or get crazy, we watched from the window. Here are some past photos from 2008, 2009, and 2010.

The race began at 7am this year(instead of 8am) and was all runners until about 9am. Then, the drunks came but it was actually calmer than past years. Floats were not allowed and I didn't see anyone puke. hah!

We also watched from the living room so that Evie could hang out the window. Let me tell you, she was quite the attraction. People in the race were pointing and saying "Oh my God, look at the dog!!" People were coming over to take her picture & talk to her. I wanted to put out a sign that said, Photos $5. haha. She was soooo good though & just watched everyone without barking.

I have a full on cold and can't breathe well/need to sleep so Evie and I took a long nap today. It was wonderful. We went for a walk & watched some TV while Erik went surfing. It was a nice, relaxing weekend!
