Daylight Savings Rules

I know everyone is upset that it's now getting dark at 5pm but, I am excited. It means that it is sunny in the AM! It is so hard to get up in the AM as it is, but even harder when it is pitch black outside. I feel so bad that Evie was walking in the dark in the AM and the PM. Now, she at least gets some sun in the morning. Plus, it's a great time to get up and work out. You KNOW that when 5pm comes, the last thing you want to do is bundle up to go outside and run!

This AM, Evie and I went out from 6-7am for about a three mile walk. It was a great walk!

Carousel horses are so scary looking. Evie hopped up on the window so she could see inside. I think she was scared, too. hah!

This playground is awesome - lots for kids to do.

And, it is officially COLD here today. 46 is cold. That is winter temperature! Last week, we were out in short sleeves and this week, we're bundled up.

Also - 'Tis the season for the grass being wet all of the time and her leash getting soaked. I need to get some construction gloves to wear while walking her so I don't get my hands a mess.

Rip Curl Pro Search

The Rip Curl Pro Search is taking place at Ocean Beach from Nov 1 - 12th. The days of competition are dependent on the weather and wave conditions. Lucky for us, today was a competition day and we got to see one of the most famous surfers in the world - Kelly Slater.

It was a sunny but chilly day down at the beach. According to Erik, the conditions weren't that great, too.

There was a huge set up on the beach for the announcers and a stage for the surfers.

Not sure who this surfer is. This competition was one of many that go on throughout the year. Kind of like how the USTA has a matches all year, and players rack up points to get their ranking. I think surfing works the same way.

It was very exciting when Kelly Slater was done surfing. Photographers bombarded him IN the water and everyone ran up to him as he came on to the sand. He is in the middle of this pack somewhere. I saw his head for about one second. hahaHere he is talking to the crowd. What is exciting was that at this competition, he was also crowned with his 11th World Champion title. He has racked up so many points during other competitions this year, that this surfing gave him the title. So, that was exciting!

There was some controversy earlier in the week. Apparently, the scores were added incorrectly and he was told he had won a few days ago. However, they went back to recalculate and had to tell him he had not won. So, today, he was officially announced the winner. It was fun to be there for that!

After watching surfing, we went to the Beach Chalet for lunch. We still had a great view of the beach! Even though I am not the surfer, I had a fun time today. It was exciting to see the surfers out there and being there for a big win!

Fun Filled Sunday

Sunday was supposed to be a rainy day and it turned out to be awesome. Besides the time change of getting an extra hour of time, it was sunny, cool, and a fun day!

I had planned on running 5 miles today to prep for my 10K that is coming up this Saturday! It was chilly out but I don't like bundling up to run. I get so hot & feel so bogged down. So, I wore my usual outfit and put on an ear wrap and these cute gloves I got at Old Navy for like $2.

After about 2 miles, I was warm enough to take these items off which was great. I finished 5 miles in about 56 minutes. I kept a good pace the entire time but you know what slows me down - cross walks! I must wait at stop lights for 5-7 minutes of my run. I think that after this race, I will drive to the marina or golden gate park to run on paths so that I can accurately check my time.

After running, we had breakfast and then headed to the Rip Curl Pro Search 2011 at Ocean Beach! I will save that for another post because we have a bunch of pics. It was really fun to see surfers live at our beach!

After watching the surfers, I brought Evie out to a part of Golden Gate park that we haven't really explored and she had so much fun! We found all of these new trails and a little lake.

We ended up behind the golf course that Erik & I have played at before. On the other side of the lake, Evie really wanted to go in. I let her because the ducks weren't around.

What a baby. She doesn't swim so she was crouching in the water and wouldn't go in very far.

She had a great time. We came home, she had a bath, and passed out.

Swimming Laps

On Saturday, I did something I haven't done in about five years - went swimming in a lap pool.

The last time I swam was probably before we moved to CA, with Erik, at the YMCA. I've been trying to find new things to do for exercise beyond running and thought about going back to swim. Erik and his friend Ian swim frequently at Aquatic Park aka the Bay so he is used to swimming. Our friends Betsy & Greg often go to the pool to swim laps, too. So, we all got together to go swimming!

Lap swim was from 9-10am. I was feeling nervous about being able to swim a lap in the pool but it was great! None of us were swimming with flip turns or anything so it all worked out. Lap Swim is open in the early AM, evening, and weekends so I definitely want to take advantage of these local pool times!

After swimming, I had a hair appointment. I had an AWESOME deal from Trubates for $75 for partial highlights AND haircut. That is just a downright steal. I have gone to the same salon a few times for my hair but I don't LOVE it, the stylist, or the prices. So, I headed over to Soma Salon for my appointment.

I was the only one there for a little while and my stylist got to work. My hair came out awesome. I love love love the cut and color. This is not really a "salon" experience where they bring you a latte while you get pampered. It was more of an in and out, get your hair done for a great price, experience. My only complaint was that he was pretty rough when washing my hair and I do love when they give you a massage while conditioning you. He also dried my hair a bit unconventionally but just hand combing and then using a flat iron. Which, I actually didn't mind because I hate sitting thru a round brush blow dry.

So, in thinking of where my hair lies on my list of priorities, I'm happy to pay less to get my hair done in a less fluffy salon experience. I'd rather save my time and money for other things in life! They also gave me a 20% off coupon for my next visit!

The rest of our day was pretty relaxing. After doing some other errands after my hair, Erik went surfing while Evie and I caught up on shows on the DVR. It was cold and rainy so Erik made us his chicken soup for dinner which was soooo good!
