LOS GATOS, Calif. -- A six-year-old Los Gatos girl whose hand was severed in a very unusual accident was recovering Monday, and may regain motion in her reattached hand, thanks in part to quick help from a passer-by. Erica Rix was playing with a
jump rope in the back of her mother's car two weeks ago when the end of the rope, fluttering out the window, caught on the car's axle. A loop of the rope tightened around the girl's wrist, slicing off her hand.
